Moko Ika Hiku Waru

Local Taniwha

As we explored the water at our location today we noted that there may be creatures lurking beneath.  I began the story of Moko Ika Hiku Waru, the eight tailed taniwha, who used to guard the waters. When we looked to see if their were any renditions of it online we couldn't find any and our tamariki were keen to draw their taniwha and share them for others to see. Please enjoy our drawings.

'My taniwha is a taniwha with four legs and one tail. It came to the waters after Moko Ika Hiku Waru left.'
